Because the total of an order can fluctuate, the tax percentage charged to consumers can vary. Kentucky – This state has an Alcohol Tax equaling 10% of the cost based on the wholesale price of wine (which is calculated at 70% of the retail price). Starting on July 1, 2022, this tax has been passed through to the consumer. All Pennsylvania consultants were made aware of this tax in a communication sent by our Winery Team on July 1. Pennsylvania – This state has an Alcohol Tax equaling $2.50 per gallon of wine. This total comes out to $0.49 per 750ml bottle of wine. This tax was charged during the month of April this year but was not an added charge on orders during the months of May and June. As a result of some circumstances beyond our control, to this point, Scout & Cellar has not been passing the Alcohol Tax through to our customers, and has, instead, been paying these taxes to the states directly. Two states listed below have always had this tax passed through, but the remaining two have had these taxes passed through on orders only recently.
